General Manager (South Boston, MA)

Castle Island is looking for a seasoned, energetic, forward-thinking General Manager to run the company’s new South Boston taproom. The ideal candidate possesses prior management experience in the hospitality industry, and will oversee and coordinate the planning, organization, training, and execution necessary to achieve stated business goals for the taproom. Things you’ll do on a typical day:

  • Manage the Front of House department including Servers, Barbacks, Retail Staff, and Hosts of the South Boston taproom
  • Supervise all employees working in the Front of House department
  • Accomplish human resource objectives by recruiting, selecting, orienting, training, assigning, scheduling, coaching, counseling, and disciplining staff; communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, appraising, and reviewing job contributions; planning and reviewing compensation actions; enforcing policies and procedures; handling complaints
  • Maintain safe, secure, and healthy facility environment by establishing, following, and enforcing sanitation standards and procedures; complying with health and legal regulations; maintaining security systems
  • Maintain guest satisfaction by monitoring, evaluating, and auditing food, beverage, and service offerings; initiating improvements; building relationships with preferred customers
  • Ensure that all guests feel welcome and are given responsive, friendly, courteous service at all times
  • Order merchandise and beer for the location; ensure all products received are in correct unit count and condition as deliveries are made
  • Comply with and enforce all federal, state county and municipal regulations that pertain to the restaurant, health & safety, and personnel
  • Work with the kitchen management to ensure that all food and products are consistently prepared and served according to recipes, portioning, cooking and serving standards
  • Complete administrative and human resource paperwork in an organized and timely manner
  • Ensure all equipment and property is kept clean and in good working condition through inspections and preventative maintenance programs
  • Control cash and receipts by adhering to cash handling and reconciliation procedures
  • Fill in where needed to ensure efficient operations and guest service standards are met

 

Things this job requires (and a few we’d really like):

  • High school diploma or equivalent; Bachelor’s Degree in management or a business-related field preferred. Three to five years of prior management experience in a restaurant or hospitality setting.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and capable of communicating effectively with customers, co-workers, and company leadership
  • Strong customer service and management skills
  • Extensive knowledge of beer and brewing process
  • Team player with strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Knowledge of P&L, budgeting, sales goals and forecasting
  • Basic math skills and ability to use a POS system, ability to operate a computer, and proficient in Microsoft office suite of programs
  • Must have a telephone or other reliable method of communicating with all employees. Must be accessible for emergencies 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
  • Able to work a minimum of 45 hours per week; able to work flexible hours necessary to manage and operate the restaurants effectively.
  • Must be able to work in a standing position for long periods of time and be able to frequently lift 50 pounds
  • Must be 21 years or older.

  • Achieving business unit revenue and profitability goals
  • Maintaining positive reputation and reviews (e.g. Google, Facebook, Yelp, etc.)
  • Keeping staff members positively engaged and excited to deliver great service
  • Minimizing staff turnover and maximizing staff morale
  • Flawless execution of standard operating procedures (SOPs)

 

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Salary range: $65,000 – $75,000
